Advent Calendar 2022: Wine Reveal

Be warned this post contains spoilers about which wine is included for each day so if you don’t want to see, this is your warning to exit the page.

December 2nd: Secco

Kick off the start of December with a bottle of Pelee Island Secco!

Our Secco is light and frothy with flavours of green apple and pear on the palate. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to celebrate alone or with friends! Pair with delicate fish, fresh oysters or use as an aperitif.

December 4th: Baco Noir

Next up is our Baco Noir VQA – The flavours are intense rich, ripe blackberries and blackcurrants on the nose with smoky, meaty aromas. Bright, fresh raspberry flavours on the palate, with medium acidity and noticeable but soft, spicy tannins on the finish. Pair with slow-baked lasagna, hearty braised beef stew with root vegetables, grilled burgers, spare ribs, wood fired Margherita pizza and hearty vegetable soup.

December 6th: Vidal

Next in the lineup – Monarch Vidal VQA which is pale lemon in colour. Look for light honey aromas on the nose, pretty lemon and lime zest flavours make for a heavenly sip. Pairs well with tex-mex, BBQ chicken, vegan burrito bowls, fish and pork or shrimp tempura.

December 8th: Cabernet Franc

Our Cabernet Franc is deep red in colour. Perfectly ripened fruit on the nose, light currant jam and spice followed by a hint of cedar on the palate. Succulent summer berry pie with velvety tannins on a long flavourful finish. Pair this with char-grilled steak, pulled pork, smooth pâté or a vegan roasted tomato and pepper soup.

December 10th: Chardonnay

Our Chardonnay Non-Oaked VQA has intense ripe honeydew melon aromas on the nose. Juicy ripe peaches and lime flavours on the palate with a lasting zesty finish. Pair it with a tangy Caesar salad, creamy tuna pasta bake or creamy avocado pasta.

December 12th: Merlot

Next up is our LOLA Merlot VQA which has been aged in 2,500 litre oak casks and carries aromas of wild cherries and blackberries with fine tannins. Pair it with salt and vinegar roasted chickpeas or make it a burger night. It also pairs nicely with salmon, bean, vegan or simply plain beef.

December 14th: Pelee Pink

This tangy rosé is appealing for its raspberry and lemon peel flavours, which linger on this medium-dry finish. A medium-bodied wine with a good concentration, fine acidity and length. Pair it with BBQ chicken marinated in a spicy sauce, a root vegetable Tagine, seared tuna or dark chocolate.

December 16th: Hopping Apple

Our Hopping Apple offers aromas of fresh apple with subtle pear and hops flavour. Dry, light to medium-bodied with crisp balancing acidity and a refreshingly long and satisfying finish. Pairs well with a creamy mushroom risotto or a lentil and vegetable curry.

December 18th: Pinot Grigio

The Pelee Island Winery Pinot Grigio has a light floral nose. Ripe pears and apricots on the palate with a nutty finish. Medium-bodied and low to medium acidity with plenty of extract, giving this wine its signature silky, rich mouth feel. Pairs well with seafood tostada bites, orzo risotto with buttery shrimp or grilled chicken with goat cheese and peppers. It’s also nice with spicy vegetarian Indian dishes.

December 20th: Sauvignon Blanc

One of our crowd favourites – Lighthouse Sauvignon Blanc VQA. Intense ripe green granny smith apple aromas on the nose. More apple and fresh pineapple flavours on the palate with a lovely lingering lemony finish. Light to medium-bodied and good acidity. Pairs perfectly with delicate lemon and herb dressed seafood and chicken, tangy arugula salad with goat cheese and lemon parmesan dressing or sweet potato quinoa salad.

December 22nd: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve VQA – this wine is full bodied and characterized by plum, cherry, blackberry, vanilla and tobacco flavours. Pair it with rosemary-pepper beef rib roast, pizza vesuvio, ribeye steak or vegetarian chilli.

December 24th: Secco

Enjoy the eve of Christmas with another bottle of Secco – aka the perfect way to celebrate!
